We are a Benefit Company, certified B Corporation
Catia Bastioli – Chief Executive Officer of Novamont
Common Benefit: A commitment embedded in the Articles of Association
Beyond seeking profits, the corporate object of a Benefit Company includes making a positive impact on society and on the biosphere. Therefore, in pursuing their corporate activities, in addition to focusing on profits, BCs voluntarily pursue one or more common benefit purposes, formally embedding these commitments in their Articles of Association.
As a Benefit Company, in order to achieve the corporate purpose, Novamont pursues common benefit objectives, operating in a responsible, sustainable and transparent way towards people, communities, territories, cultural and social assets and activities, bodies and associations and other stakeholders.
B Corp Certification and the Continuous Improvement Journey
The measurement protocol adopted by Novamont is the B Impact Assessment (BIA).
Using this tool to measure economic, environmental and social impacts, Novamont exceeded the threshold of 80 points, verified by B Lab's Standard Trust on a scale of 0 to 200 points, and was then qualified as a Certified B Corp in July 2020, with a score of 104. Novamont has thus become part of a global movement comprising to date in 2026 more than 11.115 companies in 163 sectors in 103 countries around the world that aims to spread a more evolved business paradigm (For the latest data on the global B Corp community, please refer to the B Lab website: www.bcorporation.net. In 2023 Novamont undertook a new certification process which also involved the BioBag Group, acquired in 2021. The process concluded positively with a score of 128 for Novamont (+23% compared to 104 in 2020) and 86.3 for BioBag, resulting in an overall score of 118.8.
In 2026, B Lab introduced new standards that require a revised approach to achieving B Corp certification. The new B Corp Standards (V2.2) strengthen accountability and clarity, guiding companies to take concrete actions aligned with the core mission of the B Corp movement.
Unlike the previous approach, which was based on achieving a minimum score threshold, the new standards establish more rigorous and specific requirements and sub-requirements across multiple impact areas, with the aim of promoting concrete and measurable actions throughout the entire value chain. In addition, the new B Corp framework introduces mandatory independent third-party verification to ensure maximum transparency and objective alignment with sustainability standards.
For Novamont, this evolution represents an opportunity to further advance the continuous improvement journey undertaken over the years, strengthening the integration of sustainability, governance and long-term value creation.
Measuring and reporting the value generated
To properly monitor its progress in achieving the objectives of common benefit, Novamont is committed to reporting its own activities transparently and comprehensively through an annual Impact Report, published since 2021. Novamont Impact Report, now in its sixth edition, marks an important step forward this year in the way the value generated is measured and communicated. Starting from the 2025 financial year, the company has decided to prepare a single reporting document that integrates into the Impact Report the content and indicators that were previously presented in the Sustainability Report, thus creating a more comprehensive, consistent, and integrated reporting tool. The definition of the topics reported and the objectives monitored is also based on a double materiality assessment, which makes it possible to evaluate, on the one hand, the impacts of the companys activities on people, the environment and local communities and, on the other hand, the effects that environmental, social and governance factors may have on the companys performance and its ability to create value over time.
This approach enables the identification of the issues that are most relevant to the organization and its stakeholders, supporting their proactive management through a continuous improvement perspective and guiding monitoring and reporting activities in a transparent and consistent manner.
