BIOFACH 2020: Novamont presents the news for organic agriculture

From 12 to 16 February, Nuremberg hosted the 31st edition of Biofach, the world leader exhibition of the organic farming sector, which brings together every year exhibitors and visitors from all over the world.

The fair, sponsored by IFOAM - Organics International and Bund Ökologische Lebensmittelwirtschaft - BÖLW (German Union of Economic Operators in the Ecological Food Sector) hosted a rich program of conferences and workshops, where experts from the sector shared ideas on innovations, new products and sustainability trends.

During the conference "Use of bioplastics in organic agriculture", Sara Guerrini, Novamont Agriculture Public Affairs, presented the biodegradable in soil mulch film made of Mater-Bi. In particular, she presented the new specific standard developed by AIAB together with NOVAMONT and Bioagricert, which aims to guarantee a very high incidence of renewable components in the material, the use of non-GMO renewable natural sources and the complete biodegradability in soil, in compliance with the European reference standard EN17033.

The MATER-BI mulch film, which can be used in different environmental conditions and on crops with different cycles, thanks to its biodegradability it does not need to be recovered and disposed of at the end of the crop cycle, but can be left in the soil where it is biodegraded by microorganisms thus contributing to the reduction of plastic waste production and to preserving the soil from plastic pollution.

Among the speakers, Christophe Cotillon - ACTIA (Association de Coordination Technique pour l'Industrie Agroalimentaire), Steven IJzerman - UDEA, Dutch organic wholesaler and Emanuele Busacca - IFOAM EU group - Working for organic farming in Europe.

Visitors to the Novamont stand were also able to learn about all the compostable news in the packaging, collective catering and personal hygiene sectors.
