Mater-Bi

MATER-BI is our family of biodegradable and compostable bioplastics, made entirely or partially from renewable sources, developed through over thirty years of research and innovation
MATER-BI was developed to help address specific environmental, economic, and social challenges—such as the management of organic waste and the pollution of agricultural soils—by creating a virtuous system that generates widespread benefits for society. It combines product quality and performance with efficient resource use.
MATER-BI is the result of a series of proprietary and pioneering technologies in the field of starches, vegetable oils, and their combinations. It is produced through an integrated supply chain involving three Italian production sites that, in line with our circular bioeconomy model, have been regenerated into innovative biorefineries for bioproducts.
All MATER-BI grades are certified by recognized certification bodies according to the main European and international standards. With a renewable content of up to 100%, MATER-BI offers properties and performance comparable to conventional plastics, while being biodegradable and compostable in compliance with the European standard UNI EN 13432 (“Requirements for packaging recoverable through composting and biodegradation. Test scheme and evaluation criteria for the final acceptance of packaging”)—the key technical reference for compostable material producers, public authorities, composting facilities, certification bodies, and consumers.
Thanks to its biodegradability and compostability, MATER-BI supports the optimization of organic waste management and contributes to the development of sustainable systems with environmental benefits throughout the entire production–consumption–disposal cycle.
