Novamont’s model of circular bieconomy at HERA Group’s event

Novamont’s CEO, Catia Bastioli, participated on June 6th to the event organized by Hera Group, the biggest Italian multi-utility operating in Environmental, Energy and Water services. The event focused on "Creativity and Innovation: the Italian Way to a Circular Economy".

Linked to G7, the aim of the debate was to explore business models that will help reduce waste and boost the country's efficiency. In line with the spirt of the event, Catia Bastioli has presented the potential of NOVAMONT’s bioeconomy model and the role of bioplastics in exploiting environmental and social problems turning them into opportunities. An  example is that of the separate collection of organic waste with compostable bags. With 54% of separate collection, the City of Milan proved that bioplastics can contribute to the implementation of a proper and efficient waste management.

After Hera Group President’s, Tomaso Tommasi di Vignano’s, welcome message, Ellen MacArthur, promoter of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, has held a keynote speech on the actions in order to facilitate the transition from a linear to a circular economy.

In 2016, the Ellen MacArthur Foundation launched the "The Plastics Economy initiative", bringing together the main actors involved in rethinking plastic production, consumption and disposal systems. NOVAMONT joined the project as Core Partner together with other important companies.

The event was also be attended by Gian Luca Galletti, Italian Minister of the Environment, Oscar Farinetti, founder of Eataly (the marketplace dedicated to the trade and consumption of high quality products of the Italian tradition), Enrico Giovannini, Professor of Statistics at Tor Vergata University in Rome, Carlo Ratti, director of Mit Senseable City Lab. Stefano Venier, Managing Director of  Hera Group, closed the event.
