Novamont among the speakers at the FUNGUSCHAIN final conference

On April 14, the FUNGUSCHAIN final conference “Biorefining and Cascading Approach for Mushroom Cultivation Residues” was held online.

Started in 2018, the European project, of which Novamont is partner, was coordinated by BioDetections Systems B.V. and saw the participation of 16 partners from 10 different European countries, including research institutes and leading companies in the biobased sector.

During the final event, the project results were presented and participants had the opportunity to learn how mushroom wastes can fit in the circular economy and used in industrial processes.
In particular the project, funded by Bio Based Industries Joint Undertaking under the European Horizon 2020 programme, demonstrated how it is possible to obtain novel products with enhanced properties such as biodegradable films, essential oils or vitamin enriched food from fungus residues.

Among the speakers also Patrizio Salice, Novamont Researcher New Materials and Technologies Department, who participated in the round table “Market opportunities for FUNGUSCHAIN products” and illustrated the contribute of Novamont in the project. In FUNGUSCHAIN the Group was in fact actively engaged in the valorization of the intermediates isolated from the mushroom waste by both developing bioplastics for mulch films biodegradable in soil and evaluating possible new markets and value chains.
