Catia Bastioli is the honorary Doctorate of the Alma Mater

On May 27th, the University of Bologna conferred the Honorary Doctoral Degree in Civil, Chemical, Environmental and Materials Engineering to Catia Bastioli, CEO of Novamont and prominent scientist and chemist.
 
Dr. Bastioli received the prestigious title as leading international scientific figure, promoter of important industrial initiatives in the field of chemistry, materials and the bioeconomy, capable to combine the strength of culture and education with that of technological application.
 
Bastioli, during his dissertation, illustrated the fundamental role that circular bioeconomy plays in the decarbonisation of the economy and in the regeneration of territories, starting from the soil’s health and the impellent need to redesign products, integrated value chains, as well as consumption habits and recycling logics. Then she focused on the circular bioeconomy potential to boost sustainability and competitiveness in Italy and Europe, and on the importance of educational, training and research systems to make the transition to a new development model possible.
 
The ceremony was chaired by the Rector Francesco Ubertini, the Director of the Department of Civil, Chemical, Environmental and Materials Engineering Alberto Montanari and Fabio Fava, Professor of Industrial and Environmental Biotechnology and National Representative at the States Representatives Group BBI JU.
