Catia Bastioli among the speakers of the EU Bioeconomy Conference in Brussels

On October 6, the EU Bioeconomy Conference, entitled “The Bioeconomy – Enabling the European Green Deal in Challenging Times”, organised by the European Commission, was held in Brussels.

The event, a two-day conference with the top European figures of the field, aimed to present the key findings from the EU Bioeconomy Strategy Progress Report, the Commission's report that underlines the European Bioeconomy Strategy progresses and results that has been implemented in June 2022.

On the several panels, a series of bioeconomy successes from EU research and innovation were presented. Among the speakers also Catia Bastioli, CEO at Novamont, which was invited to the event to illustrate the Group’s successful circular bioeconomy case study. During the speech, the CEO highlighted Novamont leading role in Italy and she reminded the value of bioplastics and biochemicals value chains, mentioning important actors of the sector, for instance the Biorepack Consortium, Coldiretti and SPRING - Italian Circular Bioeconomy Cluster.
In the end, Bastioli also emphasized the need of new policies to change the path we are traversing, underlining bioproducts' importance as innovation catalysts towards the adoption of “to do more with less” model.

At the panel, moderated by Monika Jones, took part also John Bell, Director of Bioeconomy, DG RTD, at European Commission, Wolfgang Burtscher, Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development at European Commission, Petri Peltonen, Under-Secretary of State at Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment of Finland and Daryna Zaitseva, EU Bioeconomy Youth Ambassador.
